Ranch Elderberry is very forgiving if you have non-fertile soils and grows 5-6 feet tall which makes it great for picking berries. The Ranch Elderberry is able to handle a zone 3 winter easily but does requires cross pollination. The Wyldewood Elderberry is a great option.
